FTSs and FTSs2 Settings Descriptions and Default Settings

The FTSs, MTSs, and FTSs2 controller settings and advanced settings can be intimidating for new users but operation is easy once you are familiar with the controller.

Please note that:

  • FTSs (Chilling Only) and MTSs controllers are Single Output controllers (only one accessory port).
  • FTSs2 (Chilling and Heating) controllers are Dual Output controllers (which have a pump /cool & a heating pad / heat port.)

Below is a short rundown of what these settings mean and do:

Main Settings - Hold the "Set" button for 3 seconds to adjust these settings.

CA - Temperature Calibration Offset mode. Everything comes factory calibrated but you can adjust your controller calibration up or down to correct any discrepancies. Factory Default is 0.

HC - Heating or Chilling mode. (Single output controller only) This just states that you are using the controller to chill (C) or heat (H). You can use a hot water pump reservoir to keep the temperature above a certain point. Do not exceed 160F or 70C in your pump reservoir. On the MTSs, this setting is used for the heating pad. Factory Default is C. This is not available in the FTSs2 controller (Dual Output) which handles this automatically.

d - Hysteresis - How far away you will allow the temperature to drift from your target temperature before the pump kicks on. This is not available in the FTSs2 controller (Dual Output) which offers Hd and Cd Hysteresis. Factory Default is 1 degree.

Hd or Cd - Hysteresis - How far away you will allow the temperature to drift from your set point before the pump kicks on. The FTSs2 (Dual Output) splits this into Hd (Heating / Over Temperature Range) and Cd (Chilling / Under Temperature range) from the target temperature. This is not available in the FTSs or MTSs controllers (Single Output) which offers d Hysteresis. Factory Default is 1 degree.

AL or AH - High/Low-Temperature Alarm - Starts beeping if the controller gets too high in temp (Alarm High AH) or too low (Alarm Low AL) from your set point. The only way to turn off that alarm is to change this setting or restore the beer to your target. This can help determine if something has gone wrong. Factory Default is 0 (off).

PT or P7 - Delay Protection - This is how many minutes the controller will wait before reacting to a change in temperature. This is to prevent overshooting when opening nearby doors or air vents kick on. Factory Default is 5.

HS or LS - High side / Low side limits - Literally which degrees you allow yourself to set the controller. You don't want to touch these unless you want to limit what the controller can be set to. Factory Default HS=230F and LS -58F.

Advanced Settings - Hold the "Set" and "^" buttons together for 3 seconds to adjust these settings.

CF - Scale mode. Choose whether to work in Celsius (C) of Farenheight (F). Factory Default is F.

ST or S7- decimal mode - Determines whether you jump 1.0-degree at a time (10) or 0.1-degree at a time (01). In some revisions can alternatively include (05) 0.5-degree steps.

*Some older revisions also have a Timer On/Off setting (Menu Code DL; Factory Default is Off) and Timing Mode (Menu Code U; Factory Default is Off). This would shut the controller off independently of the power switch.
*Some older revisions (FTSs + Heating) do not show the CF menu code, please click on this link for more info.
