Yeah I would think it would be fine if if you did that! Then just clean up the gas side post to get all the beer off of it before connecting your co2 system to it!

The liquid side of your keg has a dip tube that extends to the bottom of the keg. So when you started transferring you have enough weight/pressure coming into the keg from the 5 gallons of liquid in the bucket. But when you get about half way through the transfer, you now have say 2.5 gallons in the keg, and 2.5 gallons in the bucket. But the 2.5 gallons in the bucket does not have enough weight/pressure remaining to push down to the bottom of the dip tube and raise/lift the weight of the beer that is in the keg.
So you would need to pressurize the bucket to get the flow to start again. But like Chad said the buckets aren't meant for this, so if you attempt be careful and use extremely low pressures.
One other work around on this would just be connecting your transfer how to the gas side disconnect since that dip tube is only a couple inches long, so it will just fall into the keg.

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me out with a question on the brew bucket. I usually just attach a tube and drain into the bottom of my keg, but last night I tried to do a closed transfer and had the tube hooked up to the liquid out post of the keg with the disconnect. I had the pressure relief valve on the keg open and everything was going well until it just stopped draining. it transferred about 2 gallons and then stopped. I have a picture attached of the set up if it helps. any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
