Brewing software is commonly used to formulate recipes and batches. Each software will have a section to input your brewing equipment information to better calculate batch variables such as Original Gravity and fermenter volumes. Since the amount of "dead space" (space around the basket without grain) increases in larger batches, you should adjust your Recoverable Mash Tun Deadspace for larger grain bills. See below for some basic info when setting up your software for use with the SVBS.
SVBS Equipment Profile Vitals
- Boil Off: 1gal/hr
- Mash Volume: 11gal
- Mash Tun Dead Space / Mash Tun Loss: 0gal
- Recoverable Mash Tun Deadspace:
- 2gal for smaller recipes averaging around ~12lbs of grain
- 4gal for larger recipes averaging around ~18lbs of grain
- Loss to Trub/Chiller: 0.25gal (see our article on hotside loss for more info!)
- Estimated Mash Efficiency: 69%
Below, you can find two starting profiles for the SVBS available for download and use with BeerSmith.
Keep in mind, you will want to run a water test with the system first to help dial in a profile for your specific setup and processes!
