SVBS Batch Size and Grain Volumes

Batch Size

The SVBS is designed to brew 5 gal of finished beer out of the fermenter. We recommend targeting a post-boil volume of 5.5 gal to 6 gal.

Grain Volumes

The recommended minimum grain volume is 8 lbs and the maximum grain amount is around 20 lbs depending on the amount of recoverable mash tun deadspace accounted for by the brewer.

Can I Brew 10 gal Batches With The SVBS?

While the SVBS was designed specifically for 5 gal batches, clever brewers can find ways to brew 10 gal batches. However, this is not the system for making 10 gal batches every day of every style. Since the mash basket can hold roughly 20 lbs of grain, low ABV 10 gal batches are possible without any concessions. However small tweaks to your process such as utilizing intentional dilution, a second vessel for mashing, adding sugar, or adding malt extracts, are all viable ways to increase batch size.
